Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Introduction

Our department provides general oral surgical procedures such as wisdom tooth extraction and exposure of impacted teeth. We also provide specialized treatments such as surgery related to cleft lip and cleft palate, and orthognathic surgery to correct mismatch between the upper and lower jaws (jaw deformity). We also offer oral care and dental treatment as needed for hospitalized patients and outpatients undergoing chemotherapy.
Characteristics of this department
Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate
Patients with cleft lip and palate may have problems with feeding and appearance, as well as a lack of teeth and abnormalities in the position and orientation of the teeth. Each of these problems requires treatment that begins shortly after birth, frequent surgery, long-term follow-up, and orthodontic and prosthetic treatment according to the developmental stage.
Our department consists of oral surgeons, orthodontists, prosthodontists, and speech-specialized dentists, all working together in the same clinic to provide comprehensive and long-term care. Additionally, our hospital employs speech-language pathologists who specialize in cleft palate-related speech disorders, enabling us to provide speech therapy as needed.
We provide treatment that is not only sensitive to the disease but also to the feelings of the patient, including explanations to parents who have been diagnosed with a cleft palate during fetal diagnosis, and treatment that is tailored to the developmental stage from birth to adulthood.
Jaw Deformities (Orthognathic Surgery)
We perform surgical orthodontic treatments for severe jaw and craniofacial growth abnormalities, including conditions such as underbite, overbite, and facial asymmetry.
Our in-house orthodontists handle both preoperative and postoperative orthodontic treatments in coordination with the surgical team. Additionally, for patients referred to us by external orthodontic specialists, we work closely with their primary orthodontist to ensure smooth and effective treatment.
Hospital Dental Outpatient Services
We provide oral care for patients undergoing general anesthesia for surgeries related to other medical conditions and for hospitalized patients. This includes necessary extractions and procedures such as protective mouthpiece fittings and dental stabilization before surgery. Our goal is to ensure that patients can undergo general anesthesia safely and have a comfortable hospital stay.
Speech Therapy Clinic
Our dedicated speech-language pathologists assess speech and language development and provide tailored support and training for children. We also offer consultations for developmental and learning disabilities. Additionally, we provide speech therapy for both adults and elderly patients.
Swallowing and Dysphagia Clinic (Thursdays)
A multidisciplinary team consisting of dentists, dental hygienists, speech-language pathologists, and, in some cases, ENT specialists trained in swallowing disorders, conducts evaluations and treatments for patients with swallowing difficulties. We provide care for a wide range of patients, from infants to the elderly.
Diagnostic tests include fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (VE) and videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VF). We also offer treatments involving specialized devices, such as tongue-contact assistive prosthetics.
